Implants

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small surgical grade titanium screws/posts that are placed into the jawbone beneath the gums. Once placed, the jaw bone fuses to these implants and provides a stable support for the artificial teeth that are then mounted to the implant. Implants can be used to restore a single tooth, multiple teeth, or to increase support/stability for dentures.

The advantages of dental implants include, but are not limited to:

  1. For single tooth replacement, they allow for the restoration of the edentulous area without the need of grinding down adjacent healthy teeth as is required with a bridge;
  2. Dental implants offer alternatives to partial dentures, as implant bridges can be placed to restore spans of edentulous areas;
  3. Dental implants can be used under complete upper, and more commonly, complete lower dentures to allow for increased retention/stability of the denture by providing a foundation for the denture to attach;
  4. Dental implants stimulate the bone in the area, helping to maintain bone levels;
  5. Dental implants offer the comfort of a non removable restoration that looks and feels natural.

    In order to be a candidate for successful placement of dental implants you require healthy gums and bone to support the implant. Inquire about your case with the dentist.
